We’ve been busy in the Additional Resourced Provision (ARP) at Pickhurst Academy

Rocking Robots!

Jupiter class had a great time during Science. Still inkeeping with what was learnt about the bones in the human body, the children in Jupiter were asked to create their own model robots using different materials provided. This required thinking, writing and concentration skills as each child had to write an instruction for their peers on what to use to help complete each robot.

Sensory Play

Both classes have enjoyed the activities set up for them outside in the playground with activities such as sawdust, flour, leaves, multi coloured sand with buckets and spades and our new activity Gelli Baff.

Using partner work skills, mathematics, reading, ordering of instructions, chopping and cooking all incorporated in this baking session, Jupiter and Saturn class were able to achieve another lovely batch of healthy apple and cinnamon oat cupcakes!

Paper Mache Planets

The children are able to name some planets and really enjoyed listening to a song all about the different planets. Using balloons, papier mache and paint, the children in Jupiter were asked to create a planet. With lots of arts and crafts involved and some very messy hands, our planets are finally complete and they look out of this world!

Chinese New Year

In celebration of Chinese New Year, the children of Jupiter and Saturn had a chance to learn all about the objects used to celebrate Chinese New Year, with things like decorations and little red envelopes. The children also experienced a taste of China! There was a mixture of different flavoured noodles and rice with soy sauce, prawn crackers and fortune cookies. The children were challenged to see if they could use chop sticks to pick up the food. They all found the food delicious!

Superb Swimming

Saturn class finished off their swimming lessons with a splash! All the children had a brilliant few weeks at swimming, from being confident enough to go into the water, to balancing on floats, the children have developed more belief in themselves and achieved fantastic new skills. We are all so proud of them!
