Mental Health support at Home
Primary & Early Years
At our school, we understand that children’s emotional wellbeing and mental health are just as important as their academic learning. In both Early Years and Primary, we are seeing an increasing number of children who may experience worries, anxiety, difficulty managing emotions or changes in behaviour, which reflects wider national trends.
Young children often communicate their feelings through their behaviour. By working closely together, home and school can help children feel safe, understood and supported as they grow and develop.
How We Support Children in School
- A nurturing and caring environment where children feel safe and valued
- Strong relationships with trusted adults who support emotional development
- Early identification of emotional and wellbeing needs
- Small-group or individual pastoral support when needed
- Teaching children to recognise emotions, develop resilience and build positive relationships
- Close links with external professionals where additional support is required
Supporting Your Child’s Mental Health at Home
Parents and carers play a vital role in supporting children’s wellbeing. Simple, everyday strategies can make a big difference, including:
- Keeping consistent routines to help children feel secure
- Encouraging children to talk about their feelings through play and conversation
- Offering reassurance and helping children name and understand emotions
- Supporting good sleep habits and limiting screen time
- Celebrating effort, kindness and small successes
We regularly offer parent engagement sessions and resources to share practical strategies for supporting children’s emotional wellbeing at home. If you have any concerns about your child’s mental health or emotional development, we encourage you to speak to a member of staff so we can work together to provide the right support at the right time.
