Our Approach
At Chancery Education, we recognise the vital role that speech, language and communication skills play in children’s learning, wellbeing and social development. Across our nurseries and primary schools in the London Boroughs of Croydon and Bromley, we take a graduated and inclusive approach to supporting children’s communication needs. High-quality classroom and early years practice supports all pupils, alongside targeted interventions for those who require additional help.
Schools work closely with families, NHS Speech and Language Therapy services and local authority teams to ensure early identification, appropriate support and effective pathways for specialist intervention where needed. By working in partnership, we aim to help every child develop the communication skills they need to thrive in school and beyond.
If you have concerns about your child’s talking, understanding or interacting, support is available locally for both nursery and primary-aged children.
How Schools and Services Work Together
The approach in both Croydon and Bromley involves:
- Early identification of needs
- Classroom and nursery support through universal and targeted strategies
- Referral pathways to specialist NHS SLT services
- Parental involvement and guidance
- Collaboration between schools, families and therapists
Parent Support
Both regions emphasise early identification and encourage families to speak to health visitors, school staff or GPs if they have concerns. Practical strategies such as play-based communication, modelling language and responsive interactions are promoted to support ongoing development at home.
Supporting Your Child at Home
Parents and carers can support early communication by:
- Talking during play and daily routines
- Reading stories and singing songs together
- Giving children time to respond
- Modelling simple, clear language
